DIY Copycat Lush Ocean Salt Scrub
Creating DIY bath items is one of my favorite pastimes, and this copycat Lush Ocean Salt scrub is at the top of my list! Not only is it enjoyable to make, but it also makes for a wonderful gift for friends and family. Here are a few reasons why I love making my own bath products:
- Control over ingredients: I can ensure that every ingredient is natural and suitable for my sensitive skin, which is especially important for those of us with allergies.
- Cost-effective: DIY products are significantly cheaper to make than their store-bought counterparts.
- Fun and creative: Crafting these items allows me to express my creativity while indulging in self-care.
This Ocean Salt Scrub is a personal favorite because it combines two types of sea salt, providing an incredible exfoliating experience that softens the skin and promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells. Additionally, it is moisturizing and packed with vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants. The scent is simply delightful! With regular use, it can enhance circulation, alleviate sore muscles, and potentially improve the appearance of varicose veins, spider veins, and skin discolorations. Most importantly, it leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth!

Ingredients for Ocean Salt Scrub
-
Sea Salt
Sea salt is rich in anti-inflammatory and skin-nourishing minerals such as magnesium, sodium, potassium, calcium, and other trace elements. This scrub utilizes both coarse and fine sea salt, creating a unique combination that effectively exfoliates dry, rough skin while encouraging new skin cell growth. This process enhances skin texture and prepares it for the hydrating properties of avocado butter and coconut oil.
-
Avocado Butter
Known as a beauty secret for healthy skin, avocado butter is packed with vitamins A, D, and E, along with unsaturated fatty acids. It softens and smooths the skin, making it an excellent ingredient for a body scrub due to its melting point being just below body temperature, allowing it to easily absorb into the skin.
-
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is not only a fantastic moisturizer but also enhances skin elasticity. Its high lauric acid content provides antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, helping to prevent blemishes caused by ingrown hairs from shaving or waxing.
-
Seaweed Powder
Seaweed is incredibly hydrating, full of humectants that draw moisture to the skin. It is rich in vitamin E for nourishing the skin and vitamin C, which boosts collagen production, promoting elasticity and a youthful appearance. Additionally, seaweed contains vital nutrients such as niacin for brightening and iron for improved circulation, along with antioxidants that combat cell damage and premature aging.
-
Essential Oils
I use a blend of lime, lavender, and spearmint essential oils, creating a refreshing scent reminiscent of a gentle ocean breeze. These essential oils not only provide a delightful aroma but also offer calming therapeutic benefits. Just a few minutes in the shower with this scrub feels like a luxurious spa experience. The natural antioxidants help protect the skin, while lavender and spearmint promote improved circulation, aiding in muscle relief and potentially reducing the appearance of varicose veins and skin discolorations over time.
Instructions to Make Copycat Lush Ocean Salt Scrub
Step 1: Combine the Base
Add 1/2 cup of avocado butter and 1/2 cup of coconut oil to a heat-safe bowl or measuring cup.
Step 2: Melt the Ingredients
Using the double boiler method, add about 1 inch of water to a heavy-bottomed pot and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Place the heat-safe measuring cup with the avocado butter and coconut oil into the pot. The steam will gently melt the mixture. Stir occasionally until fully melted and combined, then remove from heat.
Step 3: Add Essential Oils
Allow the butter/oil mixture to cool for a few minutes before adding 15 drops of your chosen essential oil. Stir well. My preferred blend is 6 drops of lime, 6 drops of lavender, and 3 drops of spearmint for a refreshing, ocean-inspired scent. Feel free to adjust the number of drops to your preference. Just keep in mind that citrus essential oils are photosensitive, so rinse off before sun exposure.
Step 4: Incorporate Dry Ingredients
Add the following dry ingredients:
- 1 cup fine sea salt
- 1/4 cup coarse sea salt
- 1 teaspoon seaweed powder (optional)
Mix quickly, as the salt will thicken the scrub and make stirring more challenging.
Step 5: Optional Decorative Touch
If desired, take a tablespoon or two of the scrub and mix it in a separate bowl with a couple of pinches of mica. This step adds a beautiful touch of color, reminiscent of the ocean, and makes it an even more delightful gift.
Step 6: Jar the Scrub
Scoop the scrub into a jar. If you’re adding the decorative blue layer, create a small indent in the scrub’s center, add the blue mixture, and swirl it in to create a lovely design.
Step 7: Label Your Creation
Add a label to your jar for a personal touch. You can get a free printable label for this purpose.
How to Use Your Ocean Salt Scrub

- Gently massage the scrub onto wet skin in small circular motions.

Tip: To maintain the quality of your scrub, keep it clean and dry. Use a clean spoon to scoop out the product and avoid storing it in the shower to prevent water contamination, which can shorten its shelf life.
