Experience the Serenity of the Beach with Sea Breeze Bath Bombs

Is there any place more relaxing than the beach? I absolutely adore the sensation of sand between my toes, the gentle wind tousling my hair, the warm sun kissing my skin, and, of course, the delightful aroma of the salty sea air. That ocean scent is simply fabulous! If I could bottle it, I would do so in a heartbeat. I’ve created an essential oil blend that, while it doesn’t replicate the ocean’s scent exactly, its harmonious mix of sweet lavender, zesty lime, and a refreshing hint of spearmint emotionally transports me to the seaside. When I combine that fragrance with the vibrant blue of the ocean and the soothing feel of water against my skin, I find myself in pure bliss. All my stress evaporates. Whatever worries or challenges I faced that day disappear, leaving me feeling totally and completely relaxed as I witness this stunning sea breeze bath bomb in action.

What’s in the Sea Breeze Bath Bomb?

  • Baking soda – Detoxifies and alkalizes the body while softening the skin, leaving it feeling luxuriously silky.
  • Citric acid – This ingredient creates the fizz! The combination of water, one part citric acid, and two parts baking soda triggers the delightful fizzing reaction. It’s mesmerizing to watch bath bombs swirl and dart around my tub. When you add smaller bath bombs inside the larger ones, it creates even more excitement and color (those are called embeds, but that’s a topic for another day).
  • Cornstarch – Softens the skin and contributes to the bath bomb’s firmness.
  • Cream of tartar – Aids in hardening the bath bomb.
  • Lakes – Used for coloring the bath bombs without staining your tub.
  • Mica (optional) – Adds a touch of sparkle to your bath bomb and bath water.
  • Apricot kernel oil – A lightweight oil that allows the bath bomb to float while it fizzes. Packed with vitamins A, C, and E, as well as antioxidants, it nourishes the skin profoundly.
  • Essential oils – Provide wonderful therapeutic benefits, such as:
    • Lavender: Eases tension and soothes skin irritations.
    • Lime: Uplifting for both body and mind.
    • Spearmint: Fights fatigue and offers emotional support.
    • Cedarwood: Promotes relaxation.
    • Bergamot: Calming and purifying for the skin.
    • Wild (sweet) orange: Energizing for body and mind.
    • Roman chamomile: Calms the skin, mind, and body.
    • Patchouli: Balancing and grounding, reduces the appearance of skin imperfections.
    • Frankincense: Encourages relaxation and diminishes skin imperfections.
    • Ylang ylang: Lessens tension and promotes a positive outlook.
    • Sandalwood: Grounding and balancing with a meditative quality.
    • Geranium: Enhances the appearance of clear, healthy skin.
  • Witch hazel – Tones and calms the skin while helping to harden the bath bomb.
  • Rubbing alcohol – Aids in drying and hardening the bath bomb.

How to Make It: Recipe and Step-by-Step Instructions

  • 1.

Add 1 cup of baking soda to a medium glass bowl.

  • 2.

Mix in 1/2 cup of citric acid.

  • 3.

    Add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.

  • 4.

Include 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar.

  • 5.

Stir in 1/4 teaspoon of lake coloring.

  • 6.

Whisk the dry ingredients thoroughly before adding the wet components.

  • 7.

Pour in 1 tablespoon of apricot kernel oil.

  • 8.

Add 10-12 drops of essential oil. For the Sea Breeze scent, use 4 drops of lavender, 4 drops of lime, and 2 drops of spearmint.

  • 9.

Whisk the mixture together, breaking up any clumps.

  • 10.

Lightly spray witch hazel and rubbing alcohol into the mixture. This will cause the top layer of baking soda and citric acid to react slightly — a small fizz is acceptable, but you want to save the excitement for the bath. Aim for a damp sand consistency that holds together when squeezed but crumbles when dropped back into the bowl.

  • 11.

To mold the bath bomb, create a generous pile in each half of the bath bomb mold. Don’t pack it tightly; you want it to be light and airy, allowing it to float in the bath water. If you overpack, it may sink instead of delivering that delightful swirling show.

  • 12.

Gently press the halves of the mold together. There will likely be some excess mixture, which will compress into the bomb and some will fall back into the bowl. Carefully remove one half of the mold to unveil your beautiful bath bomb.

  • 13.

Let the bath bombs dry on a cushioned surface, like a clean towel placed over bubble wrap. Now that you’ve mastered the technique, feel free to experiment! Make them in various colors, layer different shades, create large and small versions, or use cookie cutters for unique shapes.

How to Use Your Bath Bomb

  • 1)

Fill your bath tub with warm water.

  • 2)

Gently place your bath bomb into the water.

  • 3)

Enjoy watching it spin, twirl, and frolic in the tub as it dissolves.

  • 4)

Indulge in a long, relaxing soak and savor the experience!
