- 1 cup freeze-dried strawberries (available online or at specialty stores; you can also dehydrate your own strawberries, ensuring all moisture is removed)
- 2 cups raw sugar (commonly found in the baking aisle; here’s my preferred brand. Regular white sugar can be used as a substitute.)
- 1/2 cup organic virgin coconut oil (the kind that remains solid at room temperature; here’s what I recommend)
- 20-30 drops of lime essential oil
- Blender or food processor
- Free printable label (click here to download)
- 16 oz mason jar (like this) or smaller glass jars (like these) or you may also use HDPE #2 or PET #1 plastic jars
- Optional: Ribbon or twine for decoration
Instructions for Making Strawberry Lime Sugar Scrub
Step 1: Blend Sugar
Add 1/2 cup of raw sugar to your blender or food processor.
Tip: I prefer using raw sugar for its coarser texture, which enhances exfoliation. However, regular baking sugar will work as well.
Step 2: Add Freeze-Dried Strawberries
Incorporate 1 cup of freeze-dried strawberries into the mix.
Tip: Avoid using fresh strawberries due to their moisture content, which significantly reduces shelf life (the scrub would need refrigeration). If you have a food dehydrator, you can use dehydrated strawberries, ensuring all moisture is eliminated.
Step 3: Blend to a Fine Powder
Blend the mixture on high speed until you achieve a fine powder consistency, which typically takes around 10 seconds.
Step 4: Incorporate Additional Sugar
Add the remaining 1.5 cups of sugar into the mixture.
Tip: Again, I recommend using raw sugar for its superior exfoliating properties.
Step 5: Add Coconut Oil
Incorporate 1/2 cup of organic coconut oil into the mixture.
Tip: I use solid coconut oil at room temperature. You can substitute it with fractionated coconut oil, which remains liquid.
Step 6: Add Lime Essential Oil
Mix in 20-30 drops of lime essential oil.
Step 7: Blend Until Combined
Blend the mixture on medium speed for 5-10 seconds, scrape down the sides, and repeat if necessary.
Tip: If your scrub is too thick, feel free to add more coconut oil or a liquid carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil until you reach your desired consistency.
Step 8: Jar It Up
Scoop the mixture into your jars.
Tip: This recipe yields one 16 oz jar (pint) of strawberry lime sugar scrub. If you plan on gifting these scrubs, smaller jars work beautifully; one batch can fill up to 8 adorable 2 oz mason jars.
Step 9 (Optional): Labeling

How to Use Your Sugar Scrub
- Use a clean spoon to scoop out a small amount of sugar scrub — a little goes a long way with this luxurious scrub.
- Wet your skin.
- Apply the sugar scrub in a circular motion, massaging it into your skin.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Pat your skin dry and follow up with your favorite natural moisturizer (try my homemade body butter for a fantastic after-scrub treat).
Tip: Exercise caution, as the oils in this scrub can make your shower floor slippery; rinse the floor well after use.
Tip: This scrub contains no preservatives, so ensure you keep it clean and dry.
Tip: As lime essential oil is photosensitive, it can cause skin reactions when exposed to sunlight. If you plan to be outdoors, wash the scrub off thoroughly and/or apply sunscreen.
